Learning any language is as hard as you make it, but since you have a German background, you’ll find it slightly easier due to similar vocabulary to Croatian, but not a lot otherwise, they come from different language groups. There are seven cases in Croatian: nominative, dative, accusative, genitive, vocative, locative and instrumental. German has four, as you might know, and all four do occur in Croatian. Perhaps knowing the German case system will help you a bit when learning Croatian, but it might not help you very much. One thing you’ll find easy is the pronunciation of words, as the alphabet is largely phonetic, that is, there are no silent letters and every letter always makes the exact same sound, regardless of location.
