I honestly do not think culinary school would be for you. It is expensive and with you not wanting to do this as your career, it will be too costly and time consuming. Cooking well is like painting or singing well. It’s a talent and no amount of schooling can teach you. The best way to learn is to do it. If you know someone who cooks fairly regularly, you could ask them to teach them what they know. Experiment with recipes and make them your own. If you are looking for a good cook book that explains things well, go pick up The Professional Chef. It explains the origin of certain kitchen aspects that you don’t normally get from better homes and gardens.
