Is Dreamwidth just another LiveJournal clone?
No. Dreamwidth is what is known as a “code fork”. LiveJournal makes its code available under an open source license, which means that anyone can take the code, improve on it, and use it. We decided to take that code and make our own improvements to it: we’ve modernized the code, cleaned up a lot of the backend, added in a number of new features, fixed a lot of bugs that have always annoyed us, and otherwise done considerable work to take the whole project in an entirely different direction.
