Is galangal edible after being cooked?

You can eat it, or take it out, at your discretion, it is similar to ginger, and has some of the same properties, can be woody, depending on which part of the root you cut up. It is available in powder form, like powdered ginger, and will be similar in flavor. Many times galangal, ginger, and even garlic are simply fried in oil, and removed before adding other ingredients. This gives the oil the flavor, without the actual presence of the ingredients. Like ginger, and garlic, however, the actual root is often left in the food, giving not only the flavor, but the lingering crunchy essence.
