Is it better to get an aviation pilot degree at a university (UNSW) or a flight school?
I will agree with the previous answers. A degree in Aviation (flying stream) is in my opinion a big waste of time and money. In this industry, your experience in the cockpit holds much more value than any aviation degree. In those 3 (even 4) years at university, you could have trained at a flying school, become a qualified commercial pilot, gotten a job transporting mail or tourists and built at least 1000 hours, if you are keen. If you aspire to become a commercial airline pilot, then your only goal is to get atleast 1000 hours total aeronautical time to be eligible for the issue of an ATPL, with 500 hours or more acting as the pilot in command of a twin-engined aircraft (airlines such as Qantas love that). the more hours, the better, because hours = experience. At university, 240 hours is just above the minimum to get you over the line for a commercial pilots licence (probably with a frozen ATPL im guessing?)…and thats over 3 years. in 3 years, you can achieve that commercial airli
