Is it illegal to find out someones email address and password?
Well, it’s not illegal to find out someone’s email address and password. I know several of my friends and families email addresses and passwords, and I don’t think that’s a crime. There could be problems, of course, if you found them and then accessed the accounts to use them in an inappropriate way. If you use them to cause problems online or to impersonate the person who the email and password belong to, then you could be in big trouble. I know someone who did this, actually. He is a very young mayor (at 18, considered one of the youngest in the US) of a town near me, and in a fit of youthful indiscretion emailed the mother of a guy who he was having trouble with and wrote all kinds of weird things to her pretending to be her son. He was found out, of course, and ended up being convicted of a misdemeanor for it.
