Is it safe for a woman who is pregnant, or contemplating pregnancy, to drink coffee and/or other caffeine containing drinks/foods?
Yes, in 1999 the EU Scientific Committee on Foodstuffs stated that ‘While intakes (of caffeine) up to 300mg/day appear to be safe, the possible question of effects on pregnancy and the offspring at regular intakes above 300mg/day remains open. This suggests that moderation of caffeine intake, from whatever source, is advisable during pregnancy’.
