I don’t think you should drink alcohol with any medication. It is not safe at all. I take the same medicine and I would not to that. Plus, being diabetic, drinking alcohol is bad for your liver and kidneys. And, diabetics really need to be careful.

For most Diabetics, 1-2 drinks is OK. This would be wine, beer or liquor but avoid the sweet mixers. As the warning on the bottle says, avoid alcohol, not do not consume alcohol. Margaritas have a sweet mixer for example and that is a sugar load you don’t want. Alcohol doesn’t do what you might think, it actually lowers blood glucose so it should be consumed with food. You are a type 2 and no on insulin so this isn’t as much of a problem for you but a type 1 or insulin dependent type 2 must be careful to make sure they don’t take their blood glucose too low.

Hog wash! There are no problems drinking moderately while taking Metformin. Go for it. I drink 6 beers a day. I take 2000 mg metformin and 3 mg Amaryl. FGL is 110 Hba1c stays between 5.6 and 5.9. With no low sugar episodes. But you must be the judge. This you may like . Test drinking a few toddy’s and check glucose levels. You may be happy with results!
