Is it safe to swim in the sea while pregnant?
Yes, it is, unless you water (amniotic sac) has broken, then the answer would be “no”. It’s actually safer to swim in the ocean rather than in a lake, etc. because it’s much cleaner. However, you should beware of the UV rays from the sun directly on your belly as well as making sure you don’t get too hot as heat will constrict your blood vessels and seriously limit the amount of blood (and oxygen, etc.) that baby will get which is dangerous for baby. Make sure you bring plenty of water to keep you (and baby) hydrated will on the beach. Being in the cool, clean ocean will feel great and help your body temperature at a cool, safe level, and the water will protect your belly from direct UV rays. Have fun! Congratulations, mom!
