Is Judaism a religion or nationality?

0

Judaism is a religion. Being “Jewish” is more of a nationality because Jews were all originally “B’nai Yisrael”- in Hebrew meaning “Children of Israel” before “Jewish” became a religion. Whoever was a son or daughter/ decendant of the Biblical man, Israel is a Jew. By traditional Jewish law, Jews are people with a Jewish mother or those who convert. If your mother is Jewish, then she automatically makes her children Jewish, whether or not they chose to be religious at all. Converts that choose to be Jewish and do so following all Jewish law, then become Jewish…and except the responsibilities, thus becoming a full-Jew. For example: Someone that is born into Judaism via mother chooses to be an atheist…that person is still technically a Jew. Someone who chooses Judaism and converts is then a Jew. It’s a nationality with a religion.
