Is lord of the rings only one novel or three novels?

I’m not positive about this, but I’m fairly sure there were four books in the series, but the movies skipped around a lot and take for granted you already know what is going on. “The Hobbit” is not generally considered in these days as being part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In answer to your question, The Lord of the Rings is the title of one of the books in the trilogy, but the first book which introduces all the characters and sets the scene for the whole thing is “The Hobbit,” which is not considered part of the trilogy, but you can’t really understand the trilogy if you haven’t read it first. well the book starts like this. when mr. bilbo baggins of bag end…. and the lord of the rings is quite complicated… there are 3 books but those three books are split… so like fellowship of the ring and then its like book 1 book 2 then the two towers book 3 and books 4 ect…. and the seventh book is appendices. the lord of the rings is often erroneously called a trilogy, when it is in fact a single novel, consisting of six books, plus appendice, sometimes in three volumes. the first volume, the fellowship of the ring, was published in ……
According to the introduction of Lord of the Rings, it is a single volume. One novel. It’s broken into 6 (yes 6) smaller books but they are all part of the same novel. The Hobbit is a completely separate novel and comes before Lord of the Rings and it sounds as though you have downloaded the Hobbit.
