Pagan practices in our modern world are probably best described as neo paganism as there is so little evidence of how our ancestors carried out ritual etc. The only evidence we have is so old (obviously) that its meaning is not always clear, so any reconstruction of these old ways is only an interpretation of this evidence. Most pagans that I know, including myself, work on a largely intuitive basis anyway though, listening for the right ways to do things. As a druid, many people expect me to try an reconstruct druid rites from what we thought they did in the past, but surely, even if there had been an unbroken line of druidic or pagan practices they would have changed to make them more relevant to modern life anyway, so I don’t really think it matters.
