Is moxifloxacin an antibiotic for sore throat?

No. Most sore throats are viral. Viral illnesses do not respond to antibiotics at all. The exception is strep throat. Strep throat is more likely if you have: 1. Large, swollen red tonsils 2. Sudden onset 3. Exudate (whitish spots or crud) on the tonsils 4. No cough 5. Enlarged and tender lymph nodes 6. Under age 18 7. Fever of > 101 If you have these symptoms or can’t really tell if you do, go to your doctor or an Urgent Care facility to be evaluated. If it is strep throat they can give you an antibiotic that is good for strep. Moxifloacin is not a good choice, so I’d leave it alone regardless. I hope this helps. Good luck.
