There are processes where nickel is used in recovering silver from used developer. Also, some developer tanks are stainless steel (typically, steel with about 18% chromium), which are usually made of a higher grade of stainless steel that also contains about 8% nickel. Other than these remote possibilities, I know of no other use for nickel in the photographic process.
