Is Push-To-Talk really that popular?
The number of push-to-talk (PTT) mobile subscribers will double between 2004 and 2009, according to a study released Monday by market research firm In-Stat. The study predicts that the total number PTT subscribers will increase from 33.6 million by the end of 2004 to about 33.6 million by the end of 2009. “The majority of growth will come from continued expansion in the business market and moderate uptake in the consumer market, especially youth,” Becky Diercks, an In-Stat analyst, said in a statement. She added, however, that technical barriers are preventing faster growth. Those technical barriers include a lack of interoperability between carriers. I used it but quite honestly, gave it up. It can be quite annoying, particularly when you have a long-winded buddy that just will not let up on the durn button. You can’t cut people off, or hang up on them. It’s been almost a year, and I haven’t missed it at all.
