Is round better than elliptical?
This answer depends on what ground you hunt and what you prefer to swing. However here are some points which might help you decide what you would like to use. With the round coils you have a broad search field being emitted and this can help with depth but with the larger round coils (18″ and above) can reduce your sensitivity to the sub gram targets. The round coils have the ability to cover lots of ground but can be hindered somewhat if the terrain becomes overgrown or covered in large rocks. They can pinpoint well but do take some time to find their ‘sweet spot’ but many operators are very confident with these coils.
