Is sand suitable for a honduran milk snake?
Those snakes do not naturally live in a dry, sandy environment in the wild. There is always a chance of the snake getting impacted with sand which is not good and can kill the snake. When snakes are impacted with sand it blocks anything from getting through and passing so that means they cannot digest their meals, defecate, or pass the sand. You can usually get rid of the sand by soaking the snake in warm water and rubbing the belly gently. This will help the sand pass through and the snake will be able to pass any feces or food they couldn’t digest. Also when snakes are impacted they will refuse to eat. So the best bedding I recommend for a milk snake like yours would be Aspen Bedding, Cypress Mulch, Bark chips, and Newspaper. You can also use paper towels, but never sand. Sand is more for snakes like sand boas.
