A. Hiring of personnel is administered by either the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners or the Civil Service Commission. Eligibility lists for the various job descriptions are maintained and all hiring is done from those lists. A better question to ask might be “Is the Department accepting applications for employment?” Prior to accepting applications for either sworn or non-sworn positions with the Department, announcements for available positions are printed in various area newspapers and posted on bulletin boards in area colleges. If applications are not currently being accepted, you may come to the Police Department and complete a pre-application form. When applications for employment for the various positions become available, you will be notified by mail to come to the Department and obtain one.
