Is the Ibanez GRG170DX Electric Guitar a decent starter guitar?

I recommended the Ibanez RG2X1 to somebody earlier today. I would recommend that to anyone, but if it is out of your price range the GRG170DX is a great model. Ibanez make very solid guitars that are perfect for your style. The bridge pickup on this model has a very high output for a passive humbucker (it means they are loud and clear), the addition of the middle position single coil is a nice touch, good tonal range. Ibanez guitars, more so than other manufacturers have a real ‘straight from the box’ playability to them, which require very little tweaking to the set-up. I think this or the other model I suggested would be just fine for your needs. As a beginner I would avoid any guitar with a ‘Floyd Rose’ locking tremolo system, but that may well be where you go if you want to go down the Avenged Sevenfold school of widdling guitar hero type thing. But for now a good, solidly made hardtail Ibanez is what you need.
