Is the noise load sensitive?
This stuff is off the top of my head – I’ve never done an amidships mounting of an overdrive, so I’ve not thought it all out. I think the gist of it is probably accurate, though. There is also great satisfaction in making the original system run well, as it did when new, and can again, with original components. The 6-30 will run great when set up properly. The 1,2,3 cars are a bit finicky due to the carb placement and rocker arm beam, but they also can run perfectly today. My old Series 3 was a good testament – dead stock except for a cooling vent on the carb and an intake manifold heater similar to the Series 5-8 cars. Ignition was always perfect – a good magneto and the correctly operating spark governor were the key. The car pulled strongly and ran smoothly with good speed. Rand is all but there in his car as well. The Series 4-8 appear somewhat less prone to fuel related issues and there are a few of these cars running now that bear that out.
