Is the spinal cord an organ?

0

There are two points that give evidence that the spinal cord is an organ. First, The body is divided into parts as follows: Cells are the smallest unit of the body. Groups of cells make up tissues Groups of tissues make up organs (need to be at least two different types of tissues) and groups of organs make up systems. It can be said the spinal cord is and organ since it is made up of nervous tissue. The function of which is to relay messages to the rest of the body from the brain. The second reason we can say the spinal cords is an organ is because it is protected by the spinal column. One of the main functions of the skeleton is to protect organs in the body. (i.e. Brain, heart, lungs.) This reason is more of a supporting reason while the first reason is more of the technical way of explaining why it is an organ.
