Is There a Difference Between Having Good Manners and Being Polite?
The other day a friend of mine and myself were discussing the difference between good manners and politeness. It came about because I stated that I am not a polite person and he disagreed. I feel that being polite is something that people do regardless of how they actually feel. Basically, not saying what they feel because it will be rude. I never do that. I say what I feel regardless of consequence, but I am a very well mannered individual. I say please, I say thank you, and I treat people with respect as long as they don’t disrespect me. To me, manners are a courtesy of niceness afforded to those who are nice in kind. So, I guess it’s a pretty thin line between the two for me, but a strong one also. I understand I may be playing a bit of a game of semantics here, but I’m curious as to what you all think about this…
