Is there a preferred architectural style in Del Mar?
Del Mar does not have a “preferred” architectural style such as craftsman or mission revival. A tour of the City reveals a wide variety of architectural styles, from classic to eclectic to contemporary. What the DRB does expect is quality architecture and the use of quality building materials. “Quality architecture” is defined as a design that takes into consideration the unique aspects of the site and its surroundings; and a design that includes articulation of wall and roof planes. In addition to looking at these aesthetic issues, the DRB is often called upon to assess a project’s potential impacts on the scenic views and privacy considerations of other existing homes in the area.
