Fractions are simplified by dividing common factors from the numerator and denominator. Finding common factors is easier if you are very familiar with – your multiplication tables – methods of determining divisibility by small integers – a working knowledge of Euclid’s Algorithm – methods of factoring polynomials (in the case of polynomial fractions) – rules for exponents. As with most skills, practice helps.
