Women are under enormous amounts of pressure to do it, to stay with it, and to persevere even when it seems too difficult to continue. It is one of those functions that is supposed to be natural, that should come easy to us, that we were quite literally “made” to do. And yet, the reality for many moms is a upsetting, guilt-ridden harrowing experience. We all go into the experience with an open mind, confident that things will go well and that breastfeeding will be a fulfilling, bonding experience. For many women, this is true.
