Under the current points test which applies until 30 June 2011, a person applying for an onshore subclass 885 visa will be able to get away with no work experience in some occupations as it is not a DIAC requirement. At least 1 year of work experience is mandatory for offshore (subclass 175) aplications. For many occupations however, work experience will be required in order to pass skills assessment so you should check the assessment guidelines for your occupation. http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/ Skills assessment From 1 July 2011, it will be more difficult to pass the points test without work experience.
