Is WSUS compatible with SQL Server 2005?

A. Yes, WSUS 3.0 supports SQL Server 2005. WSUS 2.0 Service Pack 1 is required for SQL 2005 support. No prior version is supported by Microsoft with any edition of SQL 2005. Note that SQL 2005 is optional and WSUS 2.0 SP1 still installs MSDE 2000 by default (SP4, which will automatically upgrade an existing instance of SP3 as installed by the original release of WSUS 2.0). Comments: From aetvsdominvs – 2/5/09 12:24 PM I have a question about the update storage size on upstream servers vs. downstream ‘replica’ servers. I’m running out of disk space on the upstream server (has 119GB of updates there) but all 5 of my downstream servers are fine, having only 23gb of update data on each. My upstream server is set to english only. Why the difference? Shouldn’t they be the same? I have already run through all of the ‘mowing the grass’ tools on both upstream and downstream servers. Thanks!

Officially…?…. “Not Yet” However, several people have successfully installed WSUS v2.0 on SQL Server 2005. It’s an “unsupported” configuration, but it does appear to work in most scenarios.
