I’ve had friends bring their children to chiropractors for ear infections and colic…how would chiropractic help these problems?
This is an excellent question to which there is a lot of confusion and misinformation. First, there are certain medical conditions that can cause these problems in infants and children, and these should be evaluated, but many times there are no definitive answers to these problems…and this is where chiropractic treatment can be quite helpful. Usually during the history we will find some problem with the birthing process-–a very fast delivery, too slow of a delivery, vacuum extraction, or c-section. These are all common causes of injury to the pediatric spine. The chiropractic evaluation looks for areas in the spine where the joints are not moving properly and are producing discomfort. With ear infections we look for these finding in the neck region where reactive tight neck musculature can compress lymph nodes and block fluid drainage from the ear.
