The final exam schedule must be planned so that no student or instructor would have two final exams scheduled at the same time. In order to accomplish that, the Office of the Registrar must group together courses that would be impossible to attend at the same time. For example, take the following three timeslots: MWF 1:00 pm – 2:05 pm M 1:00 pm – 3:45 pm W 1:00 pm – 3:45 pm In this example, we could offer an exam for the MWF course and the M course in the same slot, or we could offer an exam for the MWF course and the W course in the same slot. However, we would always need two separate exam timeslots for the M course and the W course, since students could be enrolled in both courses. In following this process to group together courses that are mutually exclusive, we have found that we need 27 timeslots in order to accommodate all course offerings.
