I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and want to know what I can do to better cope with the condition?
It is important that you have a positive attitude and control your own life. By thinking constructively about how to avoid and solve problems, there is a good chance that you’ll cope well with Parkinson’s. There will be days, however, when you’ll feel that you’re not coping, which is only to be expected.Things you can do to help you stay active, healthy and positive include: 1) continuing with hobbies and activities or finding new more suitable ones 2) realising the importance of good posture and undertaking suitable exercises 3) eating a sensible well-balanced diet.In addition, you can consider joining a self-help group. These groups are run by members for members, and consist of a group of people who share information, common experiences and problems. Members offer each other emotional and practical support based on the unique perspective only available to those with Parkinson’s.Also, the Parkinson’s Association in your state or territory will have support groups for their members.
