Lets go Clubbing…Why go all the way to Augusta to play golf?
“Morning. You must be Randy!” was not quite the greeting I’d expected at this year’s Ryder Cup course at Celtic Manor in South Wales. It was an understandable mistake. My playing partner was Randy: one Randy Tantlinger, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I wasn’t merely excited. I was thrilled. I’d arrived at the “Twenty Ten” course in Newport, Monmouthshire – venue for this year’s battle between the golfing greats of Europe and America (www.celtic-manor.com) – and not only that but I’d also just found out who was going to win! The Celtic Manor course was the final stage of what had been a marvellous journey across Wales, a cross-country family road trip hosted by Visit Wales ahead of the three-day match that’ll grip the sporting world this October. It ranks behind only the World Cup and the Olympic Games in terms of its global TV audience. Friends thought I was crazy to take the family on a golfing holiday.
