Lets start with everyones favorite question…) How much does it cost to learn to fly?
The best answer to this question is “it depends.” It depends on where you go, what aircraft you fly and how long it takes you. Many FBO’s or flight schools regularly offer flight training programs that are priced based minimum requirements. Depending on how quickly you learn, however, it’s very possible that you will need additional training over this original estimate. If thats the case, costs will increase in relation to how many additional hours of training or solo flight you need or want. From my experience, it’s very rare that someone would wrap-up their primary (Private Pilot) training in the minimum time, especially when flying out of an airport in more complex, controlled airspace. I am currently suggesting to people that they plan for around $9,000 plus or minus a few dollars. Its a mistake to enter into flight training with an unrealistic idea of what it will cost.
