Letter to Landlord – Mould & Mildew – Health Effects?
The good news is: not all mold is the deadly stuff. The bad news is, some of it is. Which do you have? Call your local health department. I don’t know where you live, but if mold is actually growing on your clothes, walls, and curtains, in most places it would be considered to be out of control. Assuming your neighbors don’t have the same problem, I might write something like: It has been (XX) days since we contacted you regarding the massive amounts of mold growing in our rental unit due to the leak. Since then, you have been unable or unwilling to deal with the issue. The mold levels are such that we feel we are no longer able to safely live in the property. [Insert findings of Health Department here] State law (XXXX) says the landlord must maintain the property or the tenant can terminate the lease. Therefore, we are terminating our lease effective (DATE) Don’t waste time telling the landlord how dangerous mold is. He knows.
