Magnetic water softeners, do they work?

If you mean magnetic scale reducers then they claim to work by reversing the polarity of the limescale particals as they pass through a cylindrical magnetic field .Apparently as the miniscule particles of calcium (limescale) bounce their way through the mains pipe they pick up a slight positive charge causing them to stick to metal parts in our appliances that are electrically negative.By passing them through the magnetic field the calcium particles become negative and will not stick to other negatives,i.e. metal parts, allowing us to drink them instead.
