Minor in possesion/consumption court summons. How should I plead?
samc I cant speak for your specific state laws because I dont know where you are and I dont know the laws in all states. You should check your own state’s law to see what type of crime it is and what the punishment might be. In my state possession of alcohol by a minor is only a civil offense and the penalty is a small fine, it does not show up on any public records, and does not become part of a permanent criminal record. As another poster suggested you may want to talk to a lawyer or I’m sure you can talk to someoen who has been through this. If you were really curious of the process you could go sit in on a court day and see what others do and what punishment they get. As for how you should plea I always tell people they should take responsiblity for their actions, if you didn’t do it then fight it if you did then take your punishment and move on. That being said I am a cop so obviously I wouldn’t tell anyone to lie to try to beat a charge. I go to court trials all the time against
