Forget shampooing and all that, there isn’t much you can do, you smell it cause it’s there and probably sitting in the walls / wood as well. My apartment got flooded last year got it shampooed professionally a couple of times, cause the smell never came out didn’t really see mildew but my boys started getting real sick and all so I got a kit to test for mold and mildew and when I got the results, I ended up having to move out. Be very carefull, if the smell is there that bad you have a permanent roomy. I had people come to my house to check it out and see what options I had and the only thing was to tear down the walls and rebuild of course my cheap as landlord didn’t go for that. So I didn’t have any other choice but to move out since my boys got so sick that I had to take a trip to the ER 3 times already. Good luck to you but don’t get fooled by products that promise to rid you of this mildew problem.

when ever you get flooding in basement you should always have your carpet replaced but if you dont want to you need to get a shampooer and shampoo it really good most likely a few times.

You can try to have it cleaned. I suggest you replace it. If the mildew was severe it would be in your best health to replace it.
