My car squeaks (or chirps) from under the hood. What is it?

Mine has done this many times, often it was when the car was either turning left (the first occurrence) or over bumps (the second). It has come back many times of the course of ownership. It has always been due to the hood squeaking on the rubber stops. This could conceivably happen at idle too. Open the hood. Does the noise go away? If so, dab some lithium grease on the 4 rubber bumpers and on the hood where they touch. If that doesn’t do it, you’ll need to adjust the hood latch (2 or 3 nuts as I recall). On the other hand, if opening the hood doesn’t get rid of then it is something else.
