I so feel your pain. I only wished I would have had 2 years. Last week our dog got sick and we took him in only to find out 2 days later he has a rare form of Leukemia and this morning we had to put him down. It destroyed him in a week from diagnosis. My husband and I knew the inevitable and we took our digital camera and took him to his favorite place, the park where he loves to run and chase his ball. It was the last day he was able to run and I think we took 40 pics. We are going to make a scrap book and remember all of our best moments about him. My husband didn’t think he could take him in and have him put down but when he saw the blood coming out of his nose and that he couldn’t even stand up this morning (a dog that was running 5 days ago) he just went in and held him tight as the vet put him to sleep. My husband cried and he is continuing to cry and he will for some time and when the time comes you will cry and it will hurt but you will get through it. You’ll know when it’s tim

I’m so sorry for your impending loss. I recently lost my 18-year-old cat to cancer. She had been diagnosed with an abdominal mass a few months before that the vet thought may be cancer. Well, even if it was, there was no way I was going to put an 18-year-old cat on chemo! And the mass was not operable. So I practiced what the vet at the animal hospital called benign neglect. I did my best to make her happy, to make sure she had food and love. One day, she seemed to be in great distress, and when I took her to her regular vet, an examination revealed that she was very ill, and the vet on duty said we could do aggressive therapy, which wouldn’t buy her much time, or humanely let her go. I chose to say goodbye to my cat. I knew when we were taking her there that I wasn’t going to be bringing her back.
