“Hacking” of an email address usually comes about because your address has been made public, by sharing it on a public forum etc, and you have used a weak password, or shared the password. A “hacker” having your IP can do no real harm if you have a firewall correctly configured. The harm they can do has already been done by them having access to your email account. That account should be closed immediately. It’s a good idea to have 3 internet addys, one that you don’t release to many folk, only close friends, one for registering at sites like this, and a throwaway one, that when it starts getting spammed, you can just walk away from. This throwaway one doesn’t have an address book, nor used for anything important.
