Although cats are susceptible to a variety of internal parasites, only a few are significant enough to mention. They are roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm, coccidia, and heartworm. Roundworm Roundworm (Toxocara Cati) is quite common in kittens. It is inherited from the queen even if she has no current infection. That’s because of an encysted form that lies dormant in a cat, coming out only during pregnancy to affect the kitten. They are not seen except when vomited, and are best described as the shape of spaghetti. These buggers do present a health hazard to children under less than sanitary conditions. That’s why veterinarians have begun to worm kittens 2-3 times even if the fecal examinations are negative. I try for a combination of worming and fecal examinations that total three for all kittens. Adult cats may occasionally vomit a roundworm, but infestations bad enough to cause illness are unusual. There is a natural immunity that develops with a cat’s maturity. Hookworms Hookworms are

Get her to a vet IMMEDIATELY!!!! Take the day off of work, get someone to cover, whatever you need to do – just get her there NOW! Your kitten is very very sick. As for what caused it, you didn’t say where you got her, but i’m assuming not from a litter in your house – she probably has had the worms for a while, caught them in the shelter or from her mother, and it has been developing since. she now has a massive problem that needs to be taken care of fast, plus with vomiting she will become sicker as she gets dehydrated and can’t get nutrition.

Your kitten more than likely has roundworms. It is a normal occurence in puppies and kittens. You don’t need to be worried as long as you take her to the vet and get dewormer. She will probably need it three times or a series as it is called. They are given it more than once to clean out their intestines. After the first dose you will likely see worms in the feces and you must give it again because there are more worms in different life stages that are still circulating in the body. Don’t be worried, just make a vet appt. and if possible take what she threw up with you or a stool sample. She may have other parasites too. Good Luck!

All Kittens get worms from drinking the mothers milk. There is no way to avoid it. The vet has a liquid product you give to your kitten that will help the kitten pass the worms out the other end. The same liquid should be given a 2nd time about 10 days later to get the larva that hadn’t quite developed into a worm the 1st time around. So, make sure you do it twice otherwise you will never get rid of them. Once you have given the kitten the liquid dewormer do not let the kitten nurse any more as it is a vicious cycle. Do not use any over the counter stuff either as suggested as this is not effective at all !! Now if you decide not to seek vet help you will run the risk of the worms totally taking over all the essential nutrients that the kitten needs in order to grow healthy and happy. Those worms inside are so very uncomfortable and are making your otherwise happy kitten so very unhealthy. It is very normal for your kitten to have these worms but you have a responsibility to the kitten
