My student seems depressed. What types of resources does USC provide to help?
Students with symptoms of depression should be encouraged to make an appointment with Health & Counseling Services at 213-740-7711. Crisis intervention is also available if genuine immediate assistance is needed. According to the website, “During office hours, 8:30 to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, a Counseling Center staff member can be contacted to assist with emergencies. Please call the general number and ask to speak with the crisis counselor. The secretary will ask you a few questions and then put you in touch with the crisis counselor, the on-call counselor, or another staff member. After hours and on the weekends, an on-call counselor is available and may be accessed by calling the Department of Public Safety at (213) 740-6000.” More information is available at: http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/Health_Center/cs.index.shtml Student health insurance may cover up to a certain number of counseling appointments.
