Your problem here is not that you’re “rubbish with computery things”, but rather that you do not understand the sociopathic society that dominates Wikipedia. Wikipedia’s “community” pretends to be building the world’s largest “encyclopedia”, but it really is a gaming society composed mostly of teens and twenty-somethings that are obsessed with obtaining status within the game (a MMORPG) and revenge against their opponents. Think of the society described in Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, and you begin to get the picture. The sort of sociopathy on display in Wikipedia’s “community” is something that long, long predates the invention of the electronic computer, or even Babbage’s.
