All of the answers so far are meaningless, in order to give you any usable advise one needs to know the length of the boat, the type of hull, engine horsepower and weight boat motor and gear that same engine can be mounted on a 25 foot 3,500 lb house boat or a 900lb 17 ft V bottom Bass boat. same motor but completely different applications. your best bet is to contact the boat manufacturer or a dealer who sell that make and ask them.
