Picture Completion loads higher on the PRI than Picture Concepts. Why was Picture Concepts chosen as the core subtest?
Factor loadings were one of the criteria considered when deciding which subtests are core and which are supplemental; equal emphasis was placed on the clinical utility and the breadth of construct coverage than on factor loading. Picture Completion and other, more traditional measures of perceptual ability, measure visual discrimination and attention to visual detail, which is a lower order cognitive ability than fluid reasoning.
