ROM vs. Web-based solutions?
While CD-ROMs have been the primary medium for delivering multimedia training, PC networks/Intranets hold the most promise for efficient delivery of multimedia training in the future. Although the percentage of companies delivering networked or Intranet-based training is still small, rapidly evolving compression techniques and high speed transmission technologies (such as fast Ethernet and fiber optics) are the solving the problems associated with sending full-motion video, synchronized audio, animation and other media-rich content to multiple users. Intranets are fast becoming the standard means of providing information and training to every desktop in many organizations. However, CD-ROM delivery still holds a strategic advantage in that it allows the use of digital audio, video, imaging and animation that is still restricted with Web-based delivery due to bandwidth limitations. Unless your company has a high-speed network capable of multimedia/video playback, results can be disappoin
