Serious Hypothetical Question: Would YOU adopt the Ten Commandments in favor of forfeiting Mans current laws?
Most of “Man’s current laws” are based on English Common Law, which is founded (for the most part) on the “Ten Commandments” and other religious-based commandments. You cannot legislate morality. The best one can do is provide the principles, which is what religion has done, and let man decide for themselves. When man’s decisions with regard to behavior step on another’s rights, then it does become a matter of community concern and laws are passed to uphold those concerns. Yes, you are correct that a lot of laws are, well, strange, and likely should be removed from the books. As to your question, Jesus answered it best: Render unto Ceasar, that which is Ceasar’s, and unto God, that which is God. The laws are Ceasar’s (figuratively speaking) and so we, as Christians, are bound by Jesus’ instruction to obey them.
It’s not necessary me to forfeit man’s current laws to follow the moral code of the 10 commandments. Scripture is clear that we are to submit to all governing authorities and laws UNLESS they directly conflict with God’s Word. The more difficult part of God’s Law is loving God with all your heart, mind and strength, followed closely by loving your neighbor as yourself. It’s extremely easy to act with love toward those you like and agree with, but requires the help of the Holy Spirit to love those who seem unlovable. Blessings.
You mean like the Middle East does now? You’d have to define the punishments. The 10 Commandments have no defined punishment during one’s lifetime, only after. Legal laws have very defined punishments. So to adopt them into a government, we’d have to do it like the Middle East does, taking from the old testament where the 10 came from: Eye for an eye. You’d prefer living in a rigid unquestionable government who will cut your hand off and stone people with a black and white set of rules? If murder is always wrong, self defense is wrong too. Think deeper before you answer. My answer – Since man’s laws are changeable, I’d much prefer them!
