Should I adopt a Mini Daschund or a Golden Retriever?

Go for the Golden Retriever without a doubt. Dachsunds are not smart at all and they are demanding. Goldens are very smart, easily trainable as they learn after two or three examples or mistakes what your preferances and their boundaries are. They are protective, sensitive and sweet, playful, careful around babies and puppies, handy, able to be walked off the leash, non confrontational to other big dogs, fun to play with, loving and full of adoration for humans, low maintenance as their fur needs not to be trimmed often like most dogs. The only thing bad is that they shed alot and always want love or they get depressed. and give you guilty looks.

I would adopt the dachshund. I had one some years ago, and they are lovely, don’t smell and they’ll even protect your kids. The golden retriever is also a lovely dog (cuter than the little sausage one), but while it’s a puppy it will turn your house upside down.

well, dogs aren’t toys, so mayber get your daughter a stuffed dog that she can dress up and carry around. In my experience dachshund’s are nippers…my grandparent’s had them and they would bite the grandkids constantly. I think a golden would be a better match for your lab/shepherd mix…then the two dogs could play. I just think that when you add a second dog to the family you need to consider the resident dog. You don’t say how old the resident dog is, so if it’s a senior and not interested in play then a small dog is fine, but younger and active then it will want to play…no way around that.

It depends. I work at a vet clinic and see a variety of dogs. A Golden is a spectacular family dog with a loving devoted personality. They are very energetic dogs t hough and need regular exercise. They also shed a lot (vacuum your house every day), so if you want to avoid this consider getting a goldendoodle. They are easily house trained. They tend to be very healthy animals, but tend to have issues with cancer at about age 10. Dachshunds – can be loyal to the family members, but often are not trusting of strangers and can become biters of stangers. They are usually less yappy than the other small breeds. They tend to have problems with their backs especially if they become over weight. They also are known for having vaccination reactions. They live fairly long – 12-15 years quite easily (sometimes much longer). They tend to dominant dogs and need an owner that will be the alpha. They require much less exercise than a Golden, but are more difficult to house train than a Golden. As fa
