Some things to consider: 1) There is not one word about red core warning yarns in the OSHA (1910 or 1926) sling regulations or the ASME B30.9, Chapter 5 sling safety standards. 2) Red core warning yarns CANNOT be used exclusively to remove a sling from service. 3) Sometimes slings become dirty, making the red core yarns impossible to see. 4) Serious structural damage can be present without red core yarns being visible. 5) If there is serious structural damage present, without the presence of red core yarns, the sling must be removed from service. 6) The Web Sling and Tiedown Association does mention red core yarns as criteria for removal in the Web Sling Standard.(WSTDA-WS-1-2004, Section 5.5.1) 7) The Web Sling and Tiedown Association does mention red core yarns in the standard for webbing.
