Should pregnant women be allowed to drink and smoke?

It’s not the government’s job to legislate anybody’s day to day life. Drinking and smoking are perfectly legal. Having different laws for pregnant women simply creates 2nd class citizens and leads to loss of rights for everybody eventually. All you can do is inform, inform, inform, but ultimately, mom has to make the choices. They may not be the best or choices you would choose. What would be smarter is to identify a drug that will cause men to not produce sperm until they are ready to have and support children. THAT would be far more effective. It’s not like we have a population shortage. In the 1970s, half of all pregnant women smoked. Most of those children were perfectly healthy. Many women do drink throughout their pregnancy by following reasonable limits (a glass of wine or a beer daily). It’s the addicts that have problems and even then, legislating addiction? Are you kidding?
