Should the military have forced conscription?
Well, conscription by definition is forced…but that aside, yes, I think National Service is a great idea. Two years manadatory when you turn 18, no exceptions…with the codicil that there needs to be an option for people who are true pacifists. IE they can spend their time in the Corps of Engineers planting trees or fixing levees or something. 1. It’s good for people, lots of young people would be straightened out by serving for two years, this alone would help the country immensely. 2. It would really help liberals and conservatives understand each other and work together for the good of the country, again an idea whose time is long overdue. 3. It would give the country a huge pool of trained reservists in case the country really needs them. 4. It would definitely improve the military, volunteer armies become politicised and corrupt and develop a gang mentality…as our military shows all too well. I think a case can be made that eliminating the draft is one of the biggest mistakes
